City of art and history
A label, an approach
In 2008, the city of Limoges joined the national network of 181 "villes et pays d'art et d'histoire". (Cities and Lands of Art and History). This prestigious label is awarded by the Ministry for the Arts for communities, which show their heritage to advantage and share it with their inhabitants and visitors.
From ancient relics to art deco architecture to ceramics and industrial adventure, 2,000 years of history have forged a rich heritage in Limoges in terms of objects, architecture and know-how.
In liaison with the tourist office, the City of Art and History department organises activities and media to uncover, appreciate and understand the numerous aspects of Limoges, from both yesterday and today.

At the foot of Limoges’ city district, explore the small-scale manufacture of solid soaps through cold saponification methods with delicious raw materials from ethical sectors, which respect both the environment and the consumer thanks to the incorporation of kaolin and other clays. You’ll enjoy a very warm welcome here, with special demonstrations, workshops for your children, gift ideas, holiday courses and entertainment. The Soap Factory offers workshops for organisations, children and adults, with an exploration into perfumes and creations on site or by way of an intervention.
